What are the different types of spyware?

All types of spyware are dangerous

There are four types of spyware. These are system monitors, keyloggers, trojans, and adware.

The many different types of spyware include the following:

System monitors

System monitors are designed to track and record all system activity, including every keystroke made, every program run, and every website visited. This information is then typically sent back to the spyware creator where it can be used for a variety of purposes, such as identity theft or simply to target ads more accurately.

Keyloggers

Keyloggers work in a similar way to system monitors, but they focus specifically on recording keystrokes. This information can again be used for a variety of nefarious purposes, such as stealing login credentials or learning sensitive information like credit card numbers.

Trojans

Trojans are a type of spyware that masquerades as something else, typically a legitimate program or website. Once the user downloads or visits the trojan, it installs itself and begins spying on the user without their knowledge. Trojans can be used to steal information or to hijack the user’s computer for purposes such as launching denial of service attacks.

Adware

Adware is a type of spyware that specifically targets ads. It does this by recording which ads are clicked on and which websites are visited. This information is then used to show the user more targeted ads, either through pop-ups or by modifying the ads that are displayed on websites. Adware can be extremely annoying and can make it difficult to view websites properly.
